“Latex Face” explores the idea of people wanting to meet the beauty standards and how they may become frightening throughout this process of alteration. They try to lose weight, build muscles, and perform plastic surgeries on their bodies in order to achieve this standard. I took inspiration from the movie Brazil by Terry Gilliam, one of the characters is obsessed with her appearance and wants to look young and beautiful. Because of this, she undergoes a facelift operation. After having done the procedure, the character doesn’t look pretty nor young, but instead looks horrific, which is the opposite of what she intended. Although the movie was made in 1985, I believe it reflects the mindset of our society nowadays. “Latex Face” forms part of my 3D concentration of ‘How fashion would be in 100 years?’.
