When I think of the word shelter, I first think of sanctuaries for people escaping from war, seeking refuge. But I believe it's so much more, a shelter can be the place where you can be yourself, and not feel disturbed from the outside world, a safe place for anyone, just like a tree house is the safe place for children.
I want to create a wearable piece like the ones the British artist, Lucy Orta makes. This would serve as a loophole, just like a shelter and would be a harmonious place for people to be themselves. That’s where "Shelter" comes from, an innovative hat, that works like a hood and folds and unfolds like an accordion. So you can just put up your hood and suddenly you’re in your world, you are protected.
I used wood for the folding parts, and a space thermal mylar blanket for the fabric. The silver fabric is the same as the ones refugees use in their shelters. At the same time the design and silver color gives a futuristic aspect.
