Plastic is one of the major toxic pollutants. It kills more than 1.1 million seabirds and animals every year. Plastic never goes away, as it is not a biodegradable material, and it is made to last forever. Yet 33% of the plastic, water bottles, straws, bags are only used once.
The Cooking dress was made to raise awareness on the waste we produce. I created plastic that is 100% biodegradable by mixing only four ingredients; tapioca starch, glycerine, vinegar, and water. I also added food coloring to obtain the pink color. I used the plastic to make the dress, the material is hard and flexible, it is also transparent and pink and has an interesting texture.
The plastic I made can be used in different ways also. It depend on how thick the plastic is made but the thicker you make it, the stronger it is. So it could be use to replace plastic bags for example. You can also pour the mixture on a mold and it will dry as any object you want, like buttons or bowls.
